The runners' medical resource is the product of a joint initiative between leading UK Road Races including the Virgin Money Giving London Marathon and the Great North Run combining to pool best practice knowledge on medical issues relating to road running events. In addition to maintaining content on this website the group have published the 'Good Practice Guide for Medical Services at UK Road Races' and has been appointed as the official Medical Advisory Group for runbritain - British Athletics' strategic management group for road running in the UK.
Medical evidence clearly demonstrates the overwhelmingly health benefit of taking part in road running events as part of a healthy lifestyle, providing you follow sensible advice on training, drinking and eating. Participants need to take responsibility for their own health by equipping themselves with the right information. This website delivers in simple terms, how to look after your body to ensure you have a safe and healthy race. Make it your priority to be informed.
"This website is a good resource for runners who may want guidance in preparation for - and on the day of - a big race. Particularly during hot weather, it's vital that people are aware of what they should do to stay fit and healthy while they train. With tips on safe training and what to eat and drink, it's an easy-to-use site for anyone out there who wants information on how to run safely." Richard Caborn, former Minister for Sport.
